
The Reed's Family:
Steve Bovee - is part owner of the shop along with his wife Sharon. They purchased the store in November 1997 with the goal of making it the best hobby shop in San Diego county. Steve is a member of the La Mesa Model Railroad Club and is currently the secretary for that club. You can usually find Steve in the shop on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturday afternoons.
Bruce Cameron - has been with Reed's since 1982, and has been day to day manager since becoming part owner in 1997. He is very knowledgeable about 3-rail O scale, American Flyer, and LGB. Bruce built the award-winning module that sits behind the counter. Bruce is also an accomplished jazz musician and plays gigs several nights a week. Chuck Merit - has been with the shop 1994. He is an assistant manager and is considered the "Mr. Fix-it" of the shop. Chuck is the owner of the 1954 Chevy you may see parked in front of the store. Yes, it has been re-painted. No, it is NOT for sale. You can usually find Chuck in the shop on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Mike Pfulb - is considered the area's premier expert in "G" scale, if he doesn't know the answer, there isn't one. He is also an expert on converting locomotives to radio control. Mike is owner of "Mike's Backshop", a company that designs and build large scale model railroads. He has been with Reed's since 1992.
Dick Trotter - has been with the shop since the mid 80's. He is a HO and DCC expert. His "Coyote Pass & Northern" has been running for several years now, and hosts operation sessions on most Sunday evenings.
Perry Lenhart - started with Reed's in 2001 when Reed's opened a shop in Escondido. When that store closed in 2004, he moved to the La Mesa store. Perry is an expert in the field of old western mining railroads, western ghost towns, scratchbuilding and scenery. He manufactures large scale historic miniatures. Charles McGill - has been with Reed's since 2004. He is very knowledgeable in HO and is learning more and more about DCC each day. He is a member of the San Diego Model Railroad Club.
Kelvin Branom - has been at Reed's since 1999 and is our expert in N-scale, On30 as well as plastics. He also has a strong knowledge of large scale models. He is a member of International Plastics Modeler's Society (IPMS), and San Diego Garden Railway Society. You can usually find Kelvin at the shop on Friday afternoons.
George Argerake - is knowledgeable in HO and On30 scales, and has been working part-time at the store since 1999.
John Clary - is the "MTH" (Mike's Train House) specialist for the shop. He has been doing MTH repairs for the shop since 2003.
Jim Weatherford - is "Mr. Lionel". Jim has been a part of the Reed's family since 1982. He is a well-known expert in the field of Lionel repairs and service. He also repairs American Flyer, and Marx. For more on Jim, please go to his website at JWTrains.com.
Bob (Robert) Nickles - otherwise know as Engineer Bob, hangs out in the store from time to time, and is now a part-time shop employee. He can also be found at the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum , where he models in 12" to the foot scale. Bob is a certified engineer and brakeman.
While not actual employees of the store, the following people are considered members of the Reed's family.
Phil Hasman - is a member of the San Diego Model Railroad Club where he runs trains twice a week. Phil stops by almost every day to help restock and help out.
John Goddard - is also a frequent customer and occasionally performs contract work installing DCC decoders.
